Clive Clive will be one of the most memorable adoptions for me in all my years of rescue. Clive is a special needs dog. He has epilepsy. For anyone that has ever witnessed a seizure, you know how scary it is. Poor Clive was dumped at a shelter by his owners who did not tell anyone about it which is actually a good thing because they would have euthanized him on the first day available. As it was, he ran out of time and ended up on "the list" and I was able to get there in time to save him. After about a week with us Clive had his first seizure. Epilepsy is easily controlled, however, the prospect of getting Clive adopted out as a special needs, especially with epilepsy, seemed daunting. My heart ached for this sweet boy who was thrown away while having a disorder that no one thus far had treated. I wanted nothing more than for him to be in a loving home where he would be cherished and cared for. What I'm always reminded of when I adopt out special needs dogs is that there's always special people who are willing to take on a challenge in recognition of the fact these are the dogs that are disadvantaged and need a loving home the most. Ginger's Pet Rescue, my sister organization in Seattle, welcomed him with open arms and would foster him for as long as it took to find him a home. Amazingly, Clive found his "heart home" just a week after arriving. A wonderful woman named Teresa fell in love with Clive and knew he was meant for her. Although she was concerned about the epilepsy and had many questions, that did not deter her from welcoming him into her heart as her fur child. Clive is now a happy and pampered pooch and doing well thanks to medication. I am forever grateful to Teresa for not only the fairy tale life she's given Clive, but for reminding me there are special people for special dogs.
